Living in Cañon City, Colorado

Not Just a City, A Community

Engage with a community that you’re happy and proud to be a part of. Today, it’s even more important to live in a place that you can call “home”. When you make your home in Cañon City, you’ll discover the benefits of living in a rural community: friendly neighborhoods, a quaint downtown business district, community service groups, dedicated non-profit organizations, innovative schools, diverse social opportunities, and abundant recreation.

Historic Charm

In Cañon City, Colorado, you’ll find opportunities to become part of a community that retains a rich history of recreation, industry, and ingenuity. From the early 1800’s, this area served as a hub for the settlement of southern Colorado. The timber, mining, agriculture, and oil industries all once thrived in this area, and the legacy of their hard work and determination remains. As Cañon City’s downtown grows, you’ll notice historic buildings coming to life and entering into new iterations. While the city enjoys many amenities and businesses that one would expect in a community of 16,000 people, Cañon City retains its unique charm.

Renewal and Renovation

The City of Cañon City has made the Arkansas River corridor a priority in the last few years, and evidence of renewed investment in Centennial Park, riverside property, and adjacent access points to the area have created a thriving, popular city center.

Above all else, I want Cañon City to be a great place to raise a family, full of opportunity, growth, recreation, and safety.

Ashley Smith, Mayor Cañon City, Colorado

I left Denver to take a job in Cañon City and don't want to leave this place! I can hike at lunch or be at some of the most beautiful places within minutes. No traffic to work and the housing is way more affordable! Lots of local dining and shopping in town with big city shopping only 30 minutes away if I ever need it.
