Our hope is with the use of common language between school and home, students will be immersed in the 7 Habits which will build their comfort in being leaders. We have seen many students step into leadership roles since we began teaching with the 7 Habits. We hear conversations between students using the common language of the 7 Habits to benefit them out on the playground and in the building. Together we can encourage responsibility and leadership in our children.
Cañon Exploratory School (K-8th)
Empowering Life-long Learners Through Relevant Exploration, Choice, and Personal Responsibility
2855 N 9th St
Cañon City, Colorado 81212
In 1997, Madison Elementary School became Madison Exploratory School. The building had been closed as a school and used as a warehouse and maintenance shop since 1970. The historic renovation became the new home for the Exploratory learning model and community of students, parents, and staff. In 1992, Molly Merry founded the Exploratory Model. The student centered program was designed and based on Multiple Intelligences Theory, Project Based Learning, student self-responsibility, Choice Theory, and Multi-age Learning.
The Madison building has been just one of many locations Exploratory called home on its journey to becoming a full sized elementary school with middle school as its next goal. What we learned is that Exploratory learning can work in any location because learning is not a school building; it is about our community of learners and their dedication to Exploratory as a way of life and a way of being.

I left Denver to take a job in Cañon City and don't want to leave this place! I can hike at lunch or be at some of the most beautiful places within minutes. No traffic to work and the housing is way more affordable! Lots of local dining and shopping in town with big city shopping only 30 minutes away if I ever need it.
Above all else, I want Cañon City to be a great place to raise a family, full of opportunity, growth, recreation, and safety.
We love Cañon City and all of the natural beauty surrounding where we live and work! Moving out of traffic-plagued North Texas and to this tech-minded community in beautiful Colorado has been a long-time dream come true.
